Jingle Jam 10K

I did the Jingle Jam yesterday.  Felt pretty good during the race.  I was a bit faster than the last 10K by 10 secs with a time of 1:02:21.  Weather was perfect for the run.  Route had a good mix of hills and flats making it a good course to run.  There is another 10K this weekend that I am deciding if I am going to do or not.  Need to get myself back on track if I am doing the Augusta Half-Marathon in February.

Finally Recovered

It has been a bit over a month and a half since I injured my ankle.  This past week was a great week of running and getting back on track with things.  I put in around 16 miles this week and haven't had any issues with my ankle.  Unfortunately I had to pull out of the Team In Training and the Savannah Half Marathon due to the fact that I know I will not be ready for a Half Marathon in November.  There is usually a local one in January or February that I plan on doing.

All I can say is that it is great to be back running and clocking in the mileage.

Getting Back

It has been a month or so since my ankle injury.  I did a couple of short runs this past week and had no issues with my ankle.  I even played a few games of volleyball and had no issues.  Looks like I can start getting my mileage back up slowly and do it without causing any more injury.

Unfortunately I had to pull out of the Savannah half marathon due to the injury.  Did not want to feel the pressure of getting mileage back up and risking another injury.   It was a tough decision but I love running and do not want to risk reinjuring and possibly causing permenant damage. There is always next year.  Guess I will plan and train for the Augusta half at the beginning of next year.

Low Week

Well, this was definitely a low week in my running mileage.  I took a couple of days off to nurse a slight injury after my run on Monday and then all of a sudden came down with a bad cold.  Having the cold kept me from doing any running this week.  Injury is feeling better and the cold is not as bad as it has been the last few days, I hope to get back on my runs starting Monday.  Depending on how I feel will determine how far I will run on Monday.

Great Training Week

Had a great week of training this week.  Put in 25 miles for the week, the most I have done in a week so far.  I ran the Yankee Doodle Dash on 4 July in Augusta, GA.  Completed it in 1:04:58, my first 10K I have done  so far.  I felt it at the 5 mile mark but was able to stick with it and complete without stopping.  Not to mention it was warm and humid during the run.

Did my Team In Training group session today, not many showed up.  In fact it was only two of us plus one of the mentors.  Guess people took some vacation time this week.  Anyways, it was a nice 5 mile run that we did this morning.  I felt good during and after the run.

Since I put in 25 miles this week and 18 miles last week, next week will be a low mileage week.  Going to keep it low to give my body time to recover after all the mileage I've put in the past couple of weeks. Looking forward to an easy week.

Didn't realize how far behind I am on the blog.  Been busy with work and my training I've been forgetting to update the blog.  Looks like I'll have to set some time aside on Sundays and do weekly updates for right now till I can get a bit more regular.  I'll update this week when Sunday gets here and do a weekly wrap up.

Team In Training

Attended the first Group Training Session for TNT Saturday morning.  I did a short 3.5 mile run and on my way towards the 13.1 miles that I will complete in November.  I met a group of great people and look forward to training with them this season.

Latest Run

Did 4.5 mile run on Monday with some of the Augusta Striders members.  I decided to join a running club here to help keep me motivated and help me in preparing for the Rock & Roll Half-Marathon coming up later this year.  I am also thinking of doing the Army 10-Miler in Washington DC this year too so I need all the motivation and help I can get to get prepared.

Run For Shelter 5K

Another 5K run completed and added to my list of 5Ks.  I did the Run For Shelter 5K here in Augusta, GA to support the rescue mission.  It was a nice run and fairly flat too.  This was my fastest 5K coming in at 27:34.

I also joined the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society Team in Training the other night.   I will be training for the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in Savannah, GA as well as raising money for the LLS and cancer research.  I will post more details in the next few days.

Getting back on track....

Wow, talk about getting behind in things here.  After coming back home from Kuwait I haven't done much in the way of running.  I did do the Knock Out Cancer 5K in Marietta, GA.  Now that I am integrated back with the family and getting back into the groove of things, time for me to get back to my running and start training for half-marathon.

Back in the States

Made it back to the states earlier this week after spending a year in Kuwait. Did my first run since being back and since the 10 miler, felt pretty good. Just needed to get my breathing back on track since I am at a slightly higher elevation and dealing with humidity. Knocked out 3.11 miles today in just over 28mins.

Credit Union 10 Miler

Completed the Credit Union 10 Miler this morning with a time of 1h 41m. My goal was to do it in 1h 45m or less. Weather was pretty good, not too warm and the dust was actually pretty low today. The last mile was probably the toughest one, maybe because it was at the end and I was ready to be finished. At least I know where I stand so I can improve a bit more and get ready for my half-marathon attempt I want to do by this fall.

Upcoming 10 Miler

Been getting ready for the upcoming Credit Union 10 Miler this Sunday, 1 April. I have dialed back on the running to keep myself from being sore or risk aggravating my ankle injury and working on carb loading to build up the energy stores I will need for the run. Looking forward to this run, I think it will be an accomplishment for me to complete it and do it without walking.

Good Run

Well, ran 6 miles this morning to get ready for the 10 miler I have coming up in a week. Was doing okay till I his the 4.5 mile mark, started running out of energy. Guess I didn't eat properly yesterday in preparation for the run. It was a good learning experience to make sure I do proper carb loading before doing long runs, something I will make sure I do before the 10 miler. I was able to keep running but my pace slowed down a lot, but I overall kept it to a 10/mile average for the run. This is the goal I want to do on the 10 miler. This week will be my light week, just a couple of small runs to keep my legs loose and ready to go for next Sunday.

Welcome to My Blog

Well, time to get started on my running blog here. I won’t have a set schedule or consistency with my blog, just whenever something happens that involves me and running. I will not be like a lot of blogs out there sharing every aspect of my life, just things about running so I hope you enjoy the blog.
